This major First Nations culture heritage park, immediately north of Saskatoon, is of national significance. Particular attention has been devoted to ensuring that development presents an appropriate cultural and environmental image. Crosby Hanna has been involved with Wanuskewin Heritage Park since its inception over 25 years ago, and the firm has a long and proud history of involvement with this dynamic cultural resource.
Specific features of the development include thematic entrance development, amphitheatre, activity area, extensive trail network including creek crossings, various interpretive stations and site exhibits, including a Medicine Wheel and Bison Jump, and a major interpretive/administration centre and archaeological laboratory and a 150 ha bison range.
Our extended and on-going involvement included resource management planning, program and functional planning, site planning and design, landscape architecture and site restoration until 2013, when the park began the Thunder Ahead campaign and Infrastructure Project. This included coordination with architectural, engineering and exhibit design consultants for visitor experience planning and infrastructure renewals including a bison reintegration program, bison viewing area and front plaza, building and trail renovations and expansions, interpretive playground, and wayfinding an interpretive signage package.
